A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a gold delta form enclosed on the two upper sides by three narrow red bars within a white wavy border, and suspended from the apex of the three bars by a red string a gold plumb bob in front of a gold mortared blue castle tower with three dovetail battlements, all supported in base by a curved red scroll inscribe in gold with the words "DELTA DEVELOPERS."
White and scarlet are the colors used by the Engineers. The three red stripes on gold are suggested by the national flag of South Vietnam and the delta shape and wavy border refer to the Mekong Delta and its waters where the unit is operating. The Group's construction mission is suggested by the castle tower with dovetail shaped battlements; the gold of the mortar joints is symbolic of quality and the plumb bob is for accuracy. The three battlements of the tower denote the unit's World War II campaign credits and the Pacific area where they were earned is represented by the color blue.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 6 February 1969.
